Peru: Huanchaco

Ah... the beach! (and pool). Huanchaco, just outside of Trujillo on the Northern Coast of Lima, was one of our favorite places to escape the rainy season in the mountains. Although a splurge of $30 per night in the past, Bracamonte Hotel, has been one of our favorite destinations in Peru. Huanchaco is also known for its traditional reed boats and a few famous ruins nearby (Chan Chan and Huaca de la Luna y Sol). This visit we sat by the pool, ordered ceviche and chicharron de pollo, and read travel books. It was an amazing three days.

We were temporarily worried about the tranquility of Bracamonte when there was a volleyball tournament and fiesta next door all day Saturday. Of course the band started blaring music at 5pm. At 10pm, when the music was still blaring, we were told the fiesta would end at 10:30pm. Fortunately, the music stopped at 10:31pm....which for any of you familiar with Peruivian fiestas, this was absolutely remarkable that the music actually stopped when we were told it would stop!

We are now in Lima enjoying our last few days in Peru with friends from the Peace Corps office staff. More pics to come soon!
