After two full days of temples it was time to take it easy - only Angkor Wat on the itinerary for Sunday. Time to recharge the batteries, relax and then take in the holy grail of the Angkor temples. This time we decided to go with a guide and Sam-Ang manning a tuk tuk for the full experience. Unfortunately, it was sweltering and Angkor Wat was a crowded oven. Our guide's English was also pretty poor, but hey - it was still Angkor Wat and still really impressive in scale (There are specific gates for the Elephants - sweet). Marta and I got in a sweet argument when she was informed that she would need to wear pants to enter the temple area. No problem, except our guide informed us of this in front of all the vendor stalls at which time, prices for any sort of covering doubled. Grr... whatever. Seven dollars poorer and rather annoyed, we pressed onto the temple. It was indeed cool, but I think there is always a certain amount of anticipation that can't be met for sights so massive in stature. And I think we all agreed that some of the lesser known sights were equally impressive and perhaps more enjoyable because we essentially had them to ourselves.
After Angkor Wat, we went back into town and had some amazing Indian food. The best meal we have had so far. So good in fact that Joe thanked some customers on the way out thinking that they were actually employees. Oops. Next it was foot massages and the night market before bed.

Sam-Ang. Our faithful driver with dreamy good looks who, for the three days, showed us around the temples of Angkor. Thanks Sam-Ang! |
