Day 7: Rapa Nui (Last day...)

Last day was great. We started out with sunrise at Ahu Tongariki. Even though we got locked out of the car we rented, we still enjoyed the sunrise. After catching a ride back to town and sorting out the car situation, we went on a dive at Motu Kao Kao, the pinnacle shaped island off the southwest tip of the island. After the dive, we ate some lunch and set out for the beach at the north end of the island. It was sunny and hot, and there were a few other tourists and locals also taking in the sun and sand. After some time on the beach and swimming in the ocean, we drove over to Rano Raraku with a final stop at Ahu Tongariki. Rano Raraku is the quarry where most all of the moai were carved. It is an incredible site with moai scattered all over the place. It is probably the most impressive site on the island and was a good way to cap off our trip to Easter Island. We drove back to town in time to catch a beautiful sunset at Ahu Tahai with a bottle of wine.

Playa Anakena - try and play where's Marta!
Ahu Tongariki... again.

Rano Raraku - This is the quarry where 90% of all the moai were carved. It is an amazing graveyard of moai at different stages of construction. By far the best site on the island and a great capstone to our trip.
This is a famous grouping of moais which shows up on postcards and magnets, but for some reason none of the shots that made the postcards or magnets used a polarizing filter. I did and I love this photo.
Just crazy how many moai you could walk by in Rano Raraku.
Last sunset with a Chilean military ship off in the distance.
Final sunset on Easter Island at Ahu Tahai.
